Your timeline

Three checkpoints before the big day

Every smile is different. Dr. Ajlouni will confirm the right timing for you at your exam.

Start with an exam and cleaning

A thorough exam of your teeth, gums and other oral health structures, plus a professional cleaning. Tell Dr. Ajlouni what you would like for the day. If the exam finds something that needs attention, such as a filling or gum care, there is plenty of time to take care of it calmly.

    Decide on cosmetic options

Mention anything you notice when you smile: stained, chipped or gapped teeth. Options at our office include professional whitening, dental bonding and aesthetic contouring, and porcelain veneers. Dr. Ajlouni always recommends the most conservative option first. Larger treatments take more than one visit (a crown, for example, generally takes 2–3 visits over 3–4 weeks), so it helps to decide early.

    Whitening and final touches

The fastest whitening option is an in-office treatment of about 2.5 hours. A take-home kit is 10 days, with wear time as little as 15 minutes a day. Custom trays need at least 2 weeks to come back from the lab. Some patients feel temporary sensitivity that fades within 24–48 hours. Keep this last month for whitening and small touch-ups rather than starting new, larger treatments.

What to avoid at the last minute

Starting big treatments late

Crowns and other restorative work take several visits over weeks. Bring them up at your 12- or 6-month visit.

Leaving whitening for the final days

A take-home kit is 10 days, custom trays need at least 2 weeks from the lab, and any sensitivity usually fades within 24–48 hours, so give yourself room.

Expecting a guaranteed shade

Results vary with genetics, current stains, oral health, medications and tobacco. Some yellow or brown stains are permanent. We will set realistic expectations with you.

Frequently asked questions

Wedding smile questions

When should I start?

A 12-month head start leaves the most room, but whatever your date, call us and we will look at what fits your calendar.

How does professional whitening work?

The fastest option is an in-office treatment of about 2.5 hours. A take-home kit is 10 days, with wear time as little as 15 minutes a day. Custom trays need at least 2 weeks to come back from the lab.

Does whitening cause sensitivity?

Some patients may feel mild, temporary sensitivity that subsides within 24–48 hours.

Can I use the $149 new patient special?

The $149 special (exam, full X-rays and cleaning) is for self-pay new patients and is not valid with insurance.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

We accept most PPO insurances. We do not currently accept HMO, DHMO, Medicaid, or Medicare plans. Regardless of coverage, the patient is responsible for the cost of service, so it helps to know your benefits before your visit.
